Plans for booklet
28.1.11 SRJ -
Process: I continued to develop my booklet today. I used my makeshift book to write ideas in and got as far as completing first drafts for all but two articles from it.
Liz has referred me to Mitchelle and Webb's TV sketches 'remain indoors'. I think it captures precisely the spirit in which I am writing my book.

Yesterday and today - Core and graphics
Bit from SRJ:
I need to write down a plan of action for the next 8 weeks in my project proposal form for friday. Show this to Tina and quickly come up with a whole finished booklet design.

Self reflective bit
Today I set myself the task of writing my own brief
result:
---------------------------------------
I thought - what can the recording device look like? I came up with the idea of a listening ear and a speaking mouth... The idea sounded very cliche tome but I decided to experiment with it visually... I had the thought to stick a mouth to a bare torso.

My own brief
Subject:
Our culture’s media-driven obsession with the end of the world, side-by-side with trash press
Aim (What I want to get):
The best final project ever seen in A&D foundation course
Method:
Come up with a way to survive the end of the world. Bearing in mind the intrinsically paradoxical nature of this objective.
Design and preferably even create an object to assist in reaching this goal.
Your main goal is to present your idea in a successful way, think unconventionally and surprise the audience.

The idea is partially based on a work I did in 2004 featured here:

Graphics today
A1 Worksheet from today's class.
Bit from my Self reflective Journal:
The Chinese person replied saying the project will cost more than $3000. of course that means I can't do it.
On a positive note that means I can start afresh with new ideas and directions. Rod (tutor) reckons I should not abandon the recording device idea.
This is an attempt to capture the way the afterimage left in my eyes after staring at the sun, it seemed appropriate to stick a hazard mask on it.

Bit from Self reflective journal
In today's lesson I have finished designing what I (very much) hope is the final design for my recording device.
I have made contact with the Chinese factory that could make the device for me and hopefully I will have the price for it within the next couple of days.

Draft for voice-recording device
The Device is meant to be used at the last moments before the end of the world.
The user will record him/her self in those final seconds.
When the record button is pressed the user will have between 6-10 seconds to leave an impression (unless he/she has decided to pre-record a message).
Any recording made beforehand will be erased!

Towards City Lit's final project
Above: worksheet made today
Self Reflective note:
The main direction I came up with today is making a collection of products (packaged separately) under a made-up brand.
Each object is a facilitator of an approach to an imminent doom.
These items include:
- Drugs for escapism
- Gun for realising dark fantasies
- Sex toys for physical pleasure
I have it in mind to add a recording device to each of these packaged items. That should inspire hope in the users, in hope that one day their recording will be salvaged and their memory survive.

Things that can give me a heart attack
"scientists assessed the 'reasonable worst case scenario' in the next five years to be more 'severe' than previously thought" that sentence just makes me cringe beyond belief.

Diversion sign
I found this big road sign around Covent Garden in a middle of the road. I took it and tested it's effects on different locations.
Happy New Year to Gabrielle Nolan
The girl seems to have super thin skin.
This is elephant skin, I realise It should have been more clear as Gaby didn't get it straight away (she thought it was stones).
The card was accompanied with a pack of plasters and a Chapstick.
